16″ MacBook Pro with 64 GB RAM & 4TB SSD
Blackmagic eGPU.
This gives me 2 GPU’s:
1. Radeon RX Vega 56 GPU, with 8GB RAM, which is similar to the GPU used in the iMac Pro.
2. AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 8GB of GDDR6 memory.
I usually copy or consolidate all the media needed for the project to the 4TB SSD because that’s by far the fastest hard drive I’ve ever worked with: 2500MB/s
That is faster than any combination of connection and expensive raid tower you can buy. That speed completely takes media transfer rates out of the equation, letting resolve use the CPU & GPU at maximum speed for Real time performance & caching.
After export I copy all files back to a raid and the client’s drives.
